Plant of current interest
Dierama dracomontanum (dy-er-AH-muh dray-koh-MON-tah-nuh)
One of the highlights of mid-summer is viewing Angel's fishing rod in full flower. Resembling a fishing rod, long, aching spikes rise above the grass-like leaves, each one drooping under the weight of pendulous pink bells. To get the full benefit of this trouble free plant, grow it in a sheltered spot in full sun. Native to South Africa. This species is found growing from the Drakensberg range from the Orange Free State to the eastern Cape. The flowers are more a dusky terracotta pink than other species.
